Fox Sports is taking a moment to recognize the man behind the cover plates that are now iconic in their own right.
Dan was on his way to a big game, so his wife, Julie, and son, Tyler, got to be a part of it.
“He was in the car, he was in his car, and his son Tyler came up behind me and asked, ‘Dad, where are you going?'”
Julie told Fox Sports.
“So I went, ‘Oh, I’m not going to be in the game.’
And he goes, ‘Well, then what are you gonna do?'”
The family’s love of the game was well-documented.
They watched all the Super Bowls together.
Julie says they also had an early-morning workout with the Bears, as they did during the season.
“They had these big metal plates, they were really heavy, so I thought, ‘Why not get out there and have a workout?'” she said.
“We got out there with all the other family members, and we went out and did it.
And the only thing that got worse was when he passed away.
He was a great man.”
Julie said that she will always cherish watching Tyler on the cover of his father’s book.
“It’s the only one that we have, the only book that we’ll have,” she said with a laugh.
“I will always have that in my heart.”
