Minimal Mondays: Becoming Minimalist
I've decided to share an entire month's worth of Minimal Monday's! Weirdly I haven't really spoken on my minimal lifestyle here on the blog just yet, but all of that is about to change.
While living in a world where YouTube and blogs are the norm, I found it entertaining to see what everyone else was up to, and before knowing or realizing it, I had begun imitating their lifestyles. I mean from the makeup brands they wore, chic places they shopped, to even furnishing my home with things I thought were a must after watching so many hauls, beautiful backdrops, and home tours.
Over the years, I found that I had many things I rarely wore, used, or had a need for. Yet I felt attached to them because I didn't want my money to go to waste, it had sentimental value, or I was saving it until I would be able to wear it again after losing weight ...and... whatever other excuse I could come up with at the time. Also, I felt the only way to treat myself after a long work week was to go shopping. It was a hobby, the one that most women have. Every week, and I do mean every single week, I just had to buy something new for myself! My husband quickly caught on to this, so I would reason with him and say things like, "we don't have any kids, we can afford it and we work hard, we deserve to buy what we want." So we did, and whenever I wasn't able to spend on something new, I felt that everything was in vain. "Why work hard if we can't treat ourselves with what we wanted?"
Recently on the Meek N Modest Podcast I shared with you all my current living arrangements, what led to my lifestyle, and how I feel about it all. If you are one of the few that haven't tuned in, do so. But anyways, it's only fitting that I touch a bit more on my lifestyle here on the blog as well.
In case you haven't already noticed, I am not your average blogger and you won't find me pretending to be either. I am not here to show you how much I have it together, because frankly who does?? I'm also not here to vent with a "woe is me" attitude. You'll soon find that to be far from my personality. I am human, and more importantly I want to show you where my value lies.
My husband and I stay in a hotel, not a house, not a loft, not an apartment, a hotel. A decent one, but a hotel nonetheless and I'm not ashamed to say so anymore. "Anymore" as in I use to be.
We went from living with a abundance of things to only living with minimal. The essentials. And if I am to tell you that much, I will also gladly tell you that the decision to do so has helped me in ways I never thought. It has led to me living minimally and has also allowed me to view life from a different viewpoint, one I never knew existed. My overall well-being has changed for the better.
Over the next few Monday's I'm excited to share with you my personal journey.
If you are new here, then a huge hello and welcome! For those of you who have been subscribed for awhile, I'm glad you're here! I look forward to sharing with you all how I've managed to gain more while living with less in the posts to come. Xx
